These were quite a splurge for me. I originally ordered a much cheaper pair on amazon (around $40). When they arrived, I realized that just because you type “noise-canceling headphones” into the search bar doesn’t mean Amazon will correctly show you headphones with a noise-canceling feature. It was only two days before my trip to Mexico, I was frustrated, and the Bose QuietComfort Bluetooth Headphones had next-day Prime shipping. We already know how this story ends.
I didn’t understand how much of a difference noise canceling headphones would make on a flight. Partly because I didn’t know any better and partly because I’ve had no choice, I’ve just accepted and had to tune out the noise that comes with flying – babies crying, the drone of engines, people talking, the seat-belt sign pinging on and off. These headphones (I got mine in Blue Dusk) soften everything. The noise-canceling feature makes the flight far more peaceful; they block out noise and muffle high pitched sounds.
I play lots of video games, so I’m used to wearing headsets. Something I’m fairly sensitive to is how headsets/headphones fit over and around my ears. If the ear cushions are poor quality or too small, they tend to pull my earlobes around and this makes them uncomfortable for long term use. Something else I also pay attention to is the weight of the headphones. If you’re planning on wearing these for several hours, think of that weight pressing down on the crown of your head, temples, and ears. The Bose QuietComfort Bluetooth Headphones were both light and comfortable.
The headphones come with their own case and have 24 hours of battery life. There is also an app that lets you customize and adjust features. At this point I’ve worn these for multiple flights, including 3-4 hours flights, 9-10 hour flights, and even had them on in the airport during a layover. Perfectly comfortable.
I’ve noticed feeling less tired after flights since using these, and I think not having to manage the constant influx of sound is what’s making the difference. It’s just nice to settle into your own peaceful little world for a few hours. I cannot recommend these enough; they are the absolute best noise canceling headphones for travel out there and were an absolute game changer for me.
