I spent 3 days exploring Guadalajara and loved every minute of it. To inspire your own travels, here is my itinerary for Guadalajara.
Guadalajara is the capital city of the state of Jalisco, widely known as the birthplace of mariachi music and the home of Tequila. Guadalajara is also well known as a cultural center, featuring gorgeous colonial architecture, museums, and public murals. A little more laid back than the more tourist-populated coastal areas of Mexico, Guadalajara offered a more authentic look at Mexico.
Within a five minute walk of each other, you’ll find the Plaza de Armas, Plaza de la Liberacion, and Plaza Guadalajara.
Check out the amazing architecture of some impressive cathedrals and also get your steps by following a self-guided walking tour.
Find a reprieve from the sun and enjoy the shade of this beautiful urban forest.
Enjoy the beautiful 17th century colonial Baroque architecture of the Basilica before wandering the nearby markets.
Inside are some impressive frescoes by one of Mexico’s most well-known muralists, Jose Clemente Orozco.
Guachimontes is an important archeological zone, famous for its unusual circular pyramids dating from pre-Columbian times.
Learn how tequila is made a do a tasting. It’s for science.
Tequila is the birthplace of the drink, tequila. See fields of blue agave and volcanoes as you drive in and listen to Mariachi in the town square.
