6 Fantastic Restaurants in Zona Romántica

Zona Romántica has so many restaurants you could try a new one each day of the year and still not have eaten everywhere. These are some one the ones I tried and really enjoyed. Each had amazing food and, for those of us who are budget conscious, shouldn’t break the bank!

Panchos Takos

Basilio Badillo 162, Zona Romántica, Emiliano Zapata, 48380 Puerto Vallarta, Jal., Mexico

This place was recommended to me on my flight over. You’ll recognize this sidewalk taqueria from the line of people outside, but don’t worry, it moves pretty fast and it’s worth the wait. I’d recommend the tacos al pastor and the chips and guacamole. They’re cash only, but will take both pesos and USD.

Tacos Sonoritas Olas Altas

Pino Suárez 234, Zona Romántica, Emiliano Zapata, 48380 Puerto Vallarta, Jal., Mexico

I found Sonoritas after striking up conversation with an American expat at Eulo’s bakery. He thought the tacos were just as good Panchos Takos (they were!) and it was less crowded because it wasn’t as known to tourists. I’d recommend the Al pastor tacos and guac here as well. Both were fantastic.

La Langosta Loca

Malecón s/n, C. Fco. I. Madero esq, Emiliano Zapata, 48380 Puerto Vallarta, Jal., Mexico

After I’d traipsed up and down El Malecon, I wanted nothing more than to sit somewhere shady and cool down. La Langosta Loca opens up directly onto the beach and I choose a shaded table steps away from the water. I tried the fish tacos, which were good, although difficult to stand up to Panchos and Sonoritas. What you’re really paying for here is the opportunity to dig your toes in the sand, have a drink, and watch people ride horses up and down the beach. Be cautioned, I was approached numerous times during my meal by peddlers trying to sell their merchandise. They weren’t persistent and a simple shake of my head was enough to get them to leave, but if you’re looking for peace and quiet you might choose somewhere else.

IK mixology bar and cuisine

Olas Altas 380, Zona Romántica, Emiliano Zapata, 48380 Puerto Vallarta, Jal., Mexico

The word “Ik” means “a reinvigorating breeze.” Ik is also a sign in the Mayan calendar that symbolizes a life-bringing wind that drives growth.

I ate here my first night in Puerto Vallarta. It’s set right on the beach and has spectacular views of the coast line and Los Muertos Pier.  The rustic decor, lush ceiling trellis, and twinkling lights makes you feel like you’re nestled in a treehouse open to the elements. The service was wonderful. I’d recommend this if you’d like somewhere nicer to enjoy a quality meal.

Langostinos restaurant and bar

Playa de los Muertos, Manuel M. Dieguez 109, Zona Romántica, Emiliano Zapata, 48380 Puerto Vallarta, Jal., Mexico

I wanted beachfront views for my last night in Puerto Vallarta. Langostinos is on Los Muertos beach, right next to the pier. You can sit inside, but I chose to be seated at a table outside on the beach. One outstanding pina colada and taco salad later I was able to enjoy the sunset, and then the glow of the city lights splash across the water.

Eulo’s bakery

Basilio Badillo 244, Zona Romántica, Emiliano Zapata, 48380 Puerto Vallarta, Jal., Mexico

This panaderia was a late night discovery when I was walking back to my airbnb one night and craving ice cream (I have a bit of a sweet tooth). Eulo’s is open until late. Inside, you select a tray, take a pair of tongs, and select from among the delicacies around you. The owner bakes Mexican pastries, fresh bread, donuts, and cakes. I must confess that I went back a few nights and each night chose the same pastry, a cream filled donut. It was just sooo good.
